WORK PERMITS ARE A LEGAL REQUIREMENT FOR ALL MINORS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR!
SUMMER 2024 WORK PERMIT ISSUANCE SCHEDULE
WHO TO CONTACT:
Due to limited staffing during the Summer months, only Work Experience Coordinators from Eastside, Highland, Lancaster, Littlerock, Palmdale, and Quartz Hill High Schools will be available to cover ALL AVUHSD SCHOOLS during the Summer. Please refer to the following Summer schedule to make contact with the Work Experience Coordinator available to process your application.
- While school is in session, students needing to renew or receive a work permit MUST contact their school site Work Experience Coordinator to make an appointment.
WORK PERMIT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 2.0 or better GPA
- No F's
- Satisfactory Attendance
BELOW ARE THE STEPS FOR THE WORK PERMIT APPLICATION PROCESS

A business offers employment to a minor.

Complete all REQUIRED information on the Work Permit application (blue or black ink only). Click HERE to access a Work Permit.
- Minor's information - Please complete all the required information for the student.
- Parent/guardian must complete their section of the application including signature and date giving minor permission to work (blue or black ink only).
- The Business/Employer/Manager must complete their section of the Work Permit APPLICATION with all the required information (blue or black ink only). We cannot accept copied or stamped signatures.
- Complete your School Address Information.
- Email the Work Experience Coordinator for an appointment (see below). Same day appointments are NOT AVAILABLE!
- You must use your high school issued email to make an appointment.
- Indicate which high school you attend along with your high school ID number.
- Be sure that you have completed all of steps 1-2 above, prior to requesting your appointment.
- DUE TO CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION, PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL COMPLETED APPLICATION!
- Bring the following to your appointment:
- The working MINOR MUST BE PRESENT (parent is not required to attend)!
- Bring proof of age (birth certificate, driver's license, or California ID).
- Bring the Work Permit application COMPLETED with ORIGINAL signatures (Business/Employer, Parent, and minor Student).
- Bring your own pen.
Please Note: Work permits can take up to 48 hours to process.
WORK EXPERIENCE EDUCATION
Provides paid or unpaid on-the-job experiences for secondary school students through training agreements with employers. Please contact the Work Experience Coordinator at your student's school. Types of work experience programs include:
- Vocational
- General
- Exploratory

- Child Labor Laws: Students work for a wide variety of reasons—to earn income, gain on-the-job experience, or connect what they are learning in the classroom to the real world. Minors employed in the state of California must have a Permit to Employ and Work (commonly referred to as a “work permit”). Work permits are typically issued by the school where the student is enrolled. Work permits indicate the location of the employer as well as the number of hours a minor may work.
